Kehoe Marine Breakwaters – Backed by Research
At Kehoe Marine, we believe durability starts with design — and that great design is backed by research. Our floating breakwaters are the result of rigorous testing and decades of proven engineering, giving our clients confidence in every installation.
We partnered with Queen’s University to simulate real-world wave action and hydrodynamic forces. They tested the shear and tension resistance of the recycled tires used in our breakwaters, ensuring they can withstand the demanding conditions of waterfront environments.
Further testing focused on the steel connection components of our structures. These were subjected to increasing lateral force until deformation, confirming that the materials and welds held strong under loads exceeding 40,000 pounds. The results demonstrated a predictable and reliable performance — critical for long-term safety and structural integrity.
Our breakwater designs also build on the legacy of Tieco, a marine construction company we acquired years ago. Tieco’s similar breakwater systems were tested by the National Research Council of Canada in 1992. Since absorbing their designs into ours, we’ve enhanced and modernized them using today’s best practices while maintaining their proven performance.
