Bayfield Basin & Barrie Marina Dredge

Client: City of Barrie
Contract Type / Kehoe Role: Design Bid Build / General Contractor
Project Summary:
Kehoe dredged 2,040 m³ of non-hazardous contaminated sediment using hydraulic excavators in both the Barrie Marina and Bayfield Basin Marina. Work involved supplying and placing sediment erosion controls; dredging excess non-hazardous contaminated sediment, dewatering / decanting of saturated sediment, hauling, and disposing of the dredged material and restoration of disturbed areas.
The city obtained most of the work permits for this marine project. Kehoe is well versed in the work permit application processes and approvals and can obtain these work permits for our clients. Kehoe obtained the license to collect fish for scientific purposes from MNRF.
Work permits for this project included:
Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Work Permit
Key point of note: Do not undertake any work in the water between the following dates March 15 - July 15. Kehoe understands the timing constraints for both warm water and cold water fish habitats and can schedule works accordingly.
Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority Development, Interference with Wetlands and Alterations to Shorelines and Watercourses Permit.
Key point of note: Kehoe has successfully completed land based disposal of dredge material in accordance with O.Reg 406/19, On-Site and Excess Soil Management, on this and numerous other projects. Kehoe also has capabilities to utilize open water disposal on projects where permitted.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) Letter of Advice
Key point of note: Remove fish from isolated area prior to conducting works by means of fishing. Safely capture and relocate fish outside of the work area; remove all invasive species as per MNRF Fish Collection License. Kehoe successfully captured and relocated the fish from within the turbidity curtain enclosure prior to work commencing.
Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF): Fish Collection Permit
Key point of note: Kehoe typically utilizes Egis, formerly McIntosh Perry Ltd, for environmental specialties such as obtaining the fish collection license and collecting the fish.
